poem is never finished, only abandoned. ~Paul Valry

Peace At Last
Promises broken because someone forgot Songs remained unsung and dreams were lost Poisoned by an angel who became a liar Taken from the light to be thrown into the fire. Fighting hard to remain sane and calm But the years passed and there was no balm Age surrounds and the music finally ends Sorting the enemies from her friends. Watching silently as her world around her dies Waiting and praying--determined not to cry Too old to care, yet too alive not to be afraid Staring in the distance as the memories begin to fade. Forced by heartless fate to live her life alone Cursed by a faultless mistake from so long ago Worse than death it is to live without love Shes ready to go home-her time is up. The lights vanish and cold darkness sets in Losing a battle too old for her to win With regret and pain she journeys on Knowing her life on this Earth is done. Magical moments forever they are gone Life left her lying so cold and alone But in the distance she beholds a light Now knowing it is time for her to give up the fight. Grasping the things that can never come back Finally turning around, she finds two sets of tracks Knowing she was never by herself She bravely takes her final last breath raw || truth |
